Earn up to 55,000 AMEX Membership Rewards points for referring friends

So I know it's been a while since my last post but I've been super busy with work. There have been a lot of topics I wanted to post about recently such as the amazing JetBlue point match promotion, discounted United saver awards to Europe for 45,000 points, and Chipotle's new loyalty program but I'll have to save those for another day. I wanted to write about an email I just received from American Express with an opportunity to earn an easy 55,000 points just for referring friends for the Platinum card.

The terms of the deal seem pretty straight forward and are as follows:

If you click on the link it will take you to https://www262.americanexpress.com/business-card-application/raf/200248-CCSG where you can log into your AMEX account and enter the names and emails of the friends you want to refer. Your friends must reply to the offer through the special link they receive and if approved your account will be credited within 8 weeks. You can receive 7,500 Membership Rewards points ("Referral Bonus") for each new Platinum Card application you refer resulting in an approved account, up to a maximum of 55,000 points per calendar year. This offer has a pretty long expiration date and is good as long as you submit your referral(s) by 11/10/2017 and your friends apply and approved by this deadline.

I've written extensively about the American Express Platinum card previously and it remains one of my favorite cards despite its rather hefty annual fee of $450 per year.

Bottom Line

This seems like an easy way to earn Membership Rewards points for minimal effort and this promo has a rather extended deadline. If you were to take full advantage of this promo and get 8 friends to sign up each calendar year (2016 and 2017) to receive the full 110,000 Membership Rewards points this equates to roughly $2,200 in value if you value Membership Rewards points at a conservative 2 cents per point. That's not bad for taking a few minutes to send an email. And this is also a good way to introduce your friends to this crazy points and miles game so they can become addicted too.
